RALEIGH, N.C. — The State Board of Election may order a recount in a State Supreme Court contest between Cheri Beasley and Mike Robinson.
With only 10 precincts unreported, the margin between Beasley and Robinson is just over 5,000 votes. North Carolina law provides for an automatic right to a recount in any statewide race when the margin is under 0.5% or 10,000 votes, whichever is lower.
The second-place candidate must submit a written demand to the State Board no later than noon on Tuesday, 11/18.
Statute: NCGS § 163-182.7(c).
